Nowadays, "sustainability" is a high-profile buzz word. Under this heading, a general race to produce the best thermal insulation values is underway, which means that other important aspects are somewhat left behind.

OPEN ARCHITECTURAL develops and produces its systems with a holistic approach, taking all ecological aspects into account.

Our company is dedicated to sustainable and responsible practices that keep the wellbeing of our environment in mind. Excellent quality is only one of the qualifications that our materials must meet. When selecting materials, we also look to the environmental aspects of the product.
We source our wood from Europe, as well as a selection of tropical woods bearing the Blue Angel seal, which guarantees certified forestry. In addition, we apply environmentally friendly practices when it comes to coatings and paints, using materials that bear the Blue Angel seal.
Steel as a raw material is perfectly suited for manufacturing profile systems. Because of steel’s excellent structural properties, less material is required to build a solid, durable frame. Steel’s strength is exhibited in heavy-duty construction, and many older buildings serve as a testament to steel’s long service life. When the product is used in the form of stainless steel, it eliminates the need for surface treatment and maintenance is substantially reduced.

Forest Stewardship Council Certification

Open is a member of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

FSC is an international non-profit organization that brings people together to find solutions to the problems posed by detrimental forestry practices. FSC’s mission is the promotion of environmentally appropriate and economically viable management of the planet’s forests.

The FSC certification is recognized by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building program, and is used in hundreds of projects across North America.

However, Open AW has been making a contribution for a long time: its internal processes ensure that the resources used are utilised as sparingly as possible, and it develops products which, at the end of the building's service life, are largely – if not completely – returned to the material cycle and can be reused accordingly.
